Philip Dautermann left Crvenka for the United States in 1920 at the age of 20. He acquired property in Crvenka in the 1930's. The land was later confiscated by the Yugoslav partisans. Although compensation was offered through the US government, he never accepted it.
Philip was the father of Walter and Fritz in Generation 11.

The spelling of the name Dautermann was "Americanized" to Dauterman at this time.

Final Commentary

The total land holdings of the Dautermann family in Crvenka must have been extensive. On a map of south Hungary in the last century, the holdings were listed as Dautermannvo Galasch. Before WWII, 25 Dautermann families lived in Crvenka. Now only three families reside there. The motto of the Dauterman family appeared in the homes of some of our ancestors in Crvenka: "Friede ernahrt, Unfriede verzehrt" - "Peace feeds, trouble devours." The history of the Dautermann family during WWII has certainly reflected that thought.
